Maximizing space is a big part of urban design and in the kitchens it is even more essential to make use of every inch. If there is one city in the world which epitomizes the concept of ‘vertical living’ that makes the most of limited square footage, then it is undoubtedly New York. It is a city that is as renowned for its high-end real estate as it is for sparkling nightlife and a skyline that is truly iconic. It is also a city that has given birth to many different decorating styles from neighborhoods like SoHo, Tribeca, NoHo and Williamsburg. Each one has its own distinct identity that is anchored in diverse history ranging from an industrial past to multi-cultural roots of its denizens.

Here’s an example of kitchen living in a beautiful brownstone in the Upper East Side.

Admiring this portes-cochere at this home in the Old Hill area of Westport. Portes-cochère differ from carports in that the vehicles pass through for passengers to board or exit rather than being parked beneath the covered area. Guard stones are often found at the foot of portes-cochère, acting as protective bollards to prevent vehicles from damaging the structure.

I am a huge fan of the Galley work station! Everyone should have this in their kitchen.

Nothing like the convenience of having everything you need within your Galley Workstation at all times 🙌.
We love braised short rib, especially the remaining flavors mixed into a sauce - covering that tender, slow-cooked meat.
Here’s our secret to saving the sauce:
Keep the potential mess within your Workstation by placing one of our mixing bowls underneath the colander that’s resting on the basin’s upper tier.
Drain, strain, and done!
Lift the colander and not a drop of that flavorful medley has gone to waste.

Here’s something fun…

A ski trip to Vail in the winter of 2022 inspired Jennifer Fridland to experiment combining the look of knitting stitches with crocheting techniques in an unconventional application that resulted in The Giant Chunky Knit Lighting Pendant.

It is naturally stain and dust resistant, fire resistant and it is one of the most effective sound dampening materials. This makes it an excellent choice for residential, hospitality, office and any other commercial applications. Lit up with a warm color LED bulb, the pendant gives a space a zen sort of feel, whether hanging in a mountain or coastal setting, a child’s bedroom, hotel lobby, or intimate dining area.

Merino wool is 100% renewable and biodegradable when not spun with synesthetic materials and is also a natural air purifier. I choose to work with a unique super chunky New Zealand merino wool hand felted in Nepal by communities of women in workshops that emphasize the importance of skilled training and flexible employment opportunities. The natural dyes used meet Oeko Tex certifications, so are not harmful to touch, breathe or washed out in the environment.
